Jacqueline Bermejo Facebook comments towards Ondoy victims

Jacqueline Bermejo - is she for real?!?

While a lot of our kababayans abroad are trying to reach out to their countrymen here in the Philippines, here's one OFW in Dubai who's up into something really really unbelievable.

"buti n lng am hir in dubai! maybe so many sinners bak der! so yeah deserving wat hapend!"-
Jacqueline Bermejo AKA Jacque Bermejo referring to what happened during Typhoon Ondoy's attack.

Seriously? I feel really sorry for this girl.

Hundreds of netizens are flooding her Facebook and Multiply sites with comments (both already closed):

What a hater! What can I say? She is beyond maloufernandez!

And here's Jacque's statement forwarded to me by someone named betchay101:

"This is my real account please help disseminate.

I am issuing this statement to clear my name in the current controversy in which I allegedly posted a highly insensitive and offensive message on the social networking website, Facebook, in relation to the victims of typhoon Ondoy that recently struck parts of the Philippines.

About two years ago, an anonymous source created these accounts using my identity, posting my personal details, my real pictures captioned roughly and attacking other people. Because of these incidents, I reported such abuses and sent my credentials to the administrators of such sites, particularly Facebook. I have been abused and am still being abused online in social networking websites such as Facebook, Friendster, Multiply etc.

In the early stages, I was advised by close friends to ignore the situation, saying this would simply go away. Unfortunately, it has not stopped. Hence, I filed a complaint with the Dubai Police about eight months ago hoping they could help me with my problem. Should anyone wish to check my statement, my case is still under investigation with said authorities.

Time passed and these sites continued to generate malicious, obscene and cruel messages that are widely exposed and relayed to the public under my name.

Yesterday, September 27th 2009, I received phone calls from my close friends regarding very alarming posts in the above mentioned websites that directly offended flood victims as a result of typhoon Ondoy..

These malicious statement(s) which are posted under account names Jacque or Jackie are not of my doing. It is unfortunate that such statements were maliciously attributed to me and I do sympathize and understand the adverse and somehow verbally violent reaction that has been elicited by such insensitive statements or posts. Rest assured, I have taken every legal step that can be done in this regard.

I too, have become a victim as much as those who may have lost their lives and properties to such a devastating natural calamity. This recent controversy has greatly affected my reputation, my family, and my friends. I am devastated and shocked at the extent my character, my personal information and private space have been violated.

I have a deep respect and regard for my country. I am proud to be a Filipino and would never say or do anything to harm the interest of my country or countrymen. I have also had the privilege of participating in civic-oriented activities in Dubai, particularly in trying to help my fellow countrymen seek employment during the height of mass layoffs brought about by the ongoing global financial crisis, as well as those seeking employment for the first time. Making a mockery of any unfortunate incidents befalling any of my fellow Filipinos is simply contrary to my character. I condemn the person or persons behind these malicious acts to impute damage on my integrity and I hope that you can dig deep into your hearts and minds to truly find the truth in all these."
Real? You be the judge.

I understand filipinos are deeply hurt by this statement of jacque bermejo, however, instead of flooding comments, curses and trying to get her off facebook or what not... why not put that energy and time and help people who needs it rather than giving this bi**h her lousy 15minutes of fame... lets help!!! lets do our share!!! we still very much need volunteers here....

Anonymous said...

Wait people... try to view this Jacque's mulitply account, even her self comment is negative, don't you think her account has been hacked? Siguro ang gumawa ng paninira sa account niya ay tawa na ng tawa dahil sa mga negative comments...dahil yun ang gusto niya magalit ang taong bayan sa kaniya..and the people who judged this Jacques hastily make it happen.

Anonymous said...

Hey people think before you react be open minded...what if this account has been hacked? And this person is not even aware of what is going on? What if someone stole her identity, remember this is a social website, and anyone can create a false profile using someone elso photos? Think. don't let our kababayan fall into this kiind of prey. Kababayans, are you not aware that here and abroad keylogging software are very prevalent specially in internet cafes? Here how it works, less secured internernet cafes some use can install keyloggers software (please google this) and this software is stealth, meaning the next users are not aware that that their keyboard strokes and mouse clicks and even screen shots of their screen monitors are being recorded. Kaya mga kababayan be on guard sa pag gamit ng computers sa mga internet cafe, not all of them are bad apples but there are few out there who knowingly aware that a keylogger software is in their system. So mga kababayan, dahan dahan sa paghuhusga. Salamat po. I absolute agree that this Jacques account has been hacked...look even her comment to herself is negative.

What do you mean hacked? Who is this person supposed to be? Is she someone important?

If her account is indeed hacked, she should have already released a statement to the administrators of her social networking websites.

Let's leave that girl alone. Siguro gawin na lang natin ang importante which is helping people in dire need. There are a lot of possibilities kasi... UNa, baka naghahanap na mapagusapan siya, which means SHE ISN't WORTH IT... Pangalawa, malay natin hindi naman talaga siya yan ( I am an IT Engineer and I tell you this is very possible ) and ginagamit lang siya, which means KAWAWA NAMAN KUNG HUHUSGAHAN NATIN.

What I am trying to say is Jacque Bermejo or whoever he/she really is must not count as a priority, nor should he/she be a recipient of our precious time. I believe the hands of God are powerful enough to strike the culprit.

Anyone with half a brain and analyze her FB comments should realize that it is indeed her. Her FB comment is just a mindless, insensitive, tactless one. One that is obviously said without thinking..in other words.. a freaking BLUNDER. Anyway, the reactions of the online community is quite too harsh. I think she never really meant it that much but the damage has been done already. There is just no other excuse on her earlier statements other than admitting pure stupity, or a simpler one.. a "hacked account". But the thing is, if I was the one who "hacked" her FB account and wanted to destroy her reputation, i'd do something a little more destructive than a silly comment.

The excuse that her account was hacked is just plain LAME. She deserves all the harsh reactions from the online community.

We can always give her the benefit of the doubt. But upon her knowledge, she should have released a statement, apologizing and explaining her part. It's hard to judge whether she is guilty or not. And it is a total wonder why she had to wait for thousands of unruly comments before she lets her brother mention her account was hacked...

Anonymous said...

Most likely she posted the offending message using an Internet enabled cellphone via Facebook Mobile (http://www.facebook.com/mobile/). That explain her bad grammar.

Anonymous said...

i know her from elementary through HS. i sent her a message asking what happened. she said her account was hacked! from the start and even without asking her, i know she wouldn't comment something cruel and insensitive as what most of you have read and circulated. also, her lingo used on the comment is very unlikely to be her. please come to think before you all judge her.

i believe she is in the process of filing a lawsuit to facebook for failing to protect her privacy and for all who circulated and made websites of her.

Abroad , one can easily hold the title manager or officer but we all know that if Jacque is so damn great she would not be working her ass out abroad.
To Jacque - if you do not have anything nice to say, keep your mouth shut. Better yet, hang yourself and you will be doing the entire population of the Phils. a great favor.
Shame on you!

Most people give negative reactions without knowing first the truth. I know Jacque since she was a small girl since I am a relative living in the province. Definitely, she is not a domestic helper in Dubai. Please, leave the girl alone, her reputation has been badly damaged already although she is innocent. I know she can never make those negative comments against her kababayans in the Phil. Tumigil na kayo, please!. Instead of wasting your time posting hate comments, do something good to the flood victims. To Jacque, just be strong and pray na malampasan mo ang problemang ito. Kilala kita and I know hindi mo magagawang mag comment nang ganun, especially sa internet.

pero.. if di totoo toh? mamatay na xa.. hahaha!

The Gossiper... is it even credible?
We'd like to hear from her in ABS or GMA. Baka one of her friends is again cleaning her mess. Dare nga...let the press people ask you questions.

saka 2 years ago? e bakit Jan 2009 yung multiply site. O come on!

Saka if na hack nga yung account sa FB, it's every users responsibility to adjust his/her privacy and security settings as deemed necessary..to the point na wala ng makita kahit profile photo mo. I have added hundreds of people for the game app im into and NONE of them ever 'hacked' my profile or ever attempted to, to the best of my knowledge.

Anonymous said...

Would you listen to what you all are saying...?

First of all, maybe the message was itended for a certain someone back in Philippines whom hates her. Who really knows right? But if she's the one who really typed those words and posted it, then she should apologize from the bottom of her heart in spite of the damage done, it is still the right thing to do. If it really is not her then she should still face and tell these people that it really wasn't her who posted it and all, she shouldn't run away from it either way. But since her profiles are all down now and from what I see, even if it really was her or not her entire life is already affected...

So now ang tanong what do we Filipinos want now? Eh 'di ba dapat nga, like what I've said to my other comments about her sa iba't ibang website, mapagkumbaba tayo?

Nobody really knows if she did or she didn’t do it except JB herself. The only way to explore this objectively is to take her personal PC or work PC and investigate in whether she accessed these accounts previously/recently. But of course, nobody would do that because it is too fiddly and costly. And besides, there are more important things in life than invstigate on a JB, who may either be a complete lunatic or an innocent lamb.

I only have a few things running in my mind that are left unanswered:
- Maybe she is not telling a very important detail here. There is a missing link. Maybe she shared her passwords with another person (someone very close). Then they fell out, thus this revenge.
- Maybe she really did someone something wrong. A big one that came with a big revenge.
- Like what others were saying, if this was a hacker, then why did he/she deleted the accounts? Did the hacker felt contented? Or maybe he/she became worried that he/she might be tracked?
- Where are the proofs of complaints to FB? Multiply? FS? And also, how can someone ‘hack’ ALL her accounts? If that was me knowing that someone was using my name, I will do everything I can on earth to clear it asap and not leave it from 2008 to end of 2009!
- I don’t know if you will agree with me, FB is one of the most secure sites I’ve ever used. With one wrong move, it routinely asks for my password.

So, I am confused myself on who to believe. But again, it is hard to give JB the benefit of the doubt at this stage… cruel, but there you go!

I think we should give this person a chance to explain for her side.

As a blogger We should not over reacted yet, we need to wait for further development, i believe that the truth will come out.

We really don't know yet if she is telling the truth, if her account was really hacked or she is just trying to defend herself for what she have done.

Let's be calm.. we must not take too much advantage for our freedom to post and speak for our own thought as bloggers.

To generate cash for the victims of Ondoy/Ketsana, PBC (Phil. Business Council),
in cooperation with other Filipino Organisations, the Filipino community and the
Phil. Consulate, will be organising a Charity Walk event.

Let us support this campaign by participating and inviting all our friends to join in.

I have cut and pasted below an update of this drive and will keep you posted on
any developments.

In the interim, please keep Oct. 9 free.

keep well,

b. carella

- 100% of the proceeds from the fund raising will go to the Philippine Red Cross
- All cost in mounting this event will be shouldered by PBC and sponsors
- Each participant will pay dhs. 50- and get free Giordano t-shirt to wear in the walk
- Venue is Safa Park - the walking path outside the park perimeter
- Date: 9th October 2009
- Time: registration will start at 7.30 AM - walk starts at 8AM
- We will be inviting all Filcom groups, all business councils, and friends of friends of all nationalities.

I met with the Dubai Municipality authorities and have given a formal letter of request to hold this
event in Safa Park. the procedure is to get approval from them. Since money will be collected for
chairty, PBC will need a go ahead from a charitable institution based in Dubai. Since we are planning
to donate the money to the Philippine Red Cross, maybe its counterpart the Rad Crescent will be the
charity of preference.

I have also approached Dubai Cares. Apparently, they do only school or children oriented charities in
kind. We will go back to them for later.

Thank you to all our members who have come forward offering help in organizing this event.

- Philippine National Bank (PNB)

You people disgust me. So quick to judge and condemn. She's a PR and Marketing person - of all the people to post something inflamatory, she'd know the negative effects of posting something like that on Facebook or other social networks. It doesn't seem plausible to you that her accounts were hacked? Has anyone checked with the authorities she's mentioned that she's lodged a complaint? How quick are all of you gonna be to apologize if it turns out she's innocent. You'll all just look away and pretend nothing happened, that you did nothing wrong. Too much Filipino "Fride" Bah!

I would like to believe the real "Jacque" was the one who wrote the disclaimer. For someone who has been in the PR industry, it is expected that she has a certain level of maturity and eloquency expected from such a practitioner...

I just hope this will be sorted out soon so that we can all go on with our lives peacefully. There are bigger issues that need urgent attention from everyone.

And to whoever made such a defaming and bizaare comment, karma's a b*@#$... we may all have the right to our own opinion but this kind is so baseless, so uneducated and inconsiderate...

@ dlabihcra:

Hi. I'm Anonymous, the one that posted above at September 30, 2009 10:52 AM

The reason I wished to remain anonymous was that I anticipated people would not understand the intent of my post and would think I was siding with the negative Facebook comment that was posted. I do not wish death threats upon myself - threats that so many of you seem so quick to dish out, since everyone here's so emotional. I noticed your profile is not open to the public as well. So you're almost as anonymous as I, "Archibald".

With that said, the "people" I was disgusted with were those here that were so quick to judge and to condemn, some even threatening her life. You weren't able to comprehend the context of what I said and just latched on to "you people". Of course, the loss of many lives in the Philippines was horrible, but to wish death upon someone, who many not have even left the comment, is quite horrible as well, don't you agree?

How many people here looked more into the issue before crucifying her? Controversy spreads fast on the internet. If it turns out it wasn't her, how quickly will that spread? How many of you would apologize for what you've said? Her life and reputation are being destroyed and she may not have even done anything! So many seem to hold on to their version of the truth (that she did post it) that they're not willing to acknowledge the possibility that it might be not be true at all.

I commented about too much Filipino pride in that sometimes you are too proud to admit when you're wrong. I'll repeat it again: "How quick are all of you gonna be to apologize if it turns out she's innocent. You'll all just look away and pretend nothing happened, that you did nothing wrong." It will just be a tiny blurb in the back of the newspaper or an addendum to an online post.

I'll refer you to one seemingly sane voice amidst all this to read and consider:

Peace and love.

NEWS ARTICLE ABOUT THE DUBAIL POLICE’S OFFICIAL STATEMENT
Fake web posting on floods triggers tsunami of vitriol

By Siham Al Najami, Staff Reporter
Published: September 30, 2009, 22:30

Dubai: The victim of an identity theft known to many as Jackie or Jacque talks of her devastating experience after a comment was posted in her name on the social networking site, facebook, saying that the severe typhoon that battered Manila is "deserved".

The 31-year-old marketing executive in Dubai was battered with thousands upon thousands of messages, e-mails, and phone calls about the comments that said: "It’s a good thing I’m here in Dubai. There might be a lot of sinners back there Philippines. So, yeah, they deserved what happened."

This has devastated the life of Jacqueline Bermejo, a Filipina, who has had several days of sleepless nights and is constantly scared of being in public due to frequent threats and calls she is receiving.

"I received messages threatening my life and my family’s. My reputation is completely affected and I constantly have nightmares. I just want it to end," she told Gulf News in a phone interview.

For about two years Jacqueline has been facing the unfortunate nightmare as somebody created these accounts using her identity, posting personal details, and pictures.

"I have been abused and am still being abused online in social networking websites such as facebook, Friendster, Multiply etc," she said while urging public to be aware of what they post online as it could be used against them.

Her facebook account was deactivated following repeated incidents but she was requested by the police to establish an authentic account to clarify her case among her friends.

On Sunday, she received a phone call from a friend regarding very alarming posts on the above websites that directly offended typhoon and flood victims.

Subsequent faceback groups have been made in response to the comment including threatening calls to her sister and letters to her employer.

"I too, have become a victim as much as those who may have lost their lives and properties to such a devastating natural calamity. I have a deep respect and regard for my country. I am proud to be a Filipino and would never say or do anything to harm the interests of my country or countrymen," she said in an emotional tone.

According to Major Saeed Al Hajiri, director of Dubai Police department combating cyber crimes, "It is definitely a case of identity theft. The victim reported the case in November of 2008 whereby accounts have been created on facebook under her name."

The matter is still under investigation by the police, he said while refusing to disclose whether they have information about the identities of the people behind this act.

"We are aware of her case and we are constantly in contact with the victim and we have seen the posts written in the accounts in her name. We are working on tracing the people behind this which could take time."

May comment na po from dubai police to verify yung claim ni Ms. Jacque. please see http://archive.gulfnews.com/articles/09/10/01/10353684.html. SO NOW, THE PEOPLE WHO WERE QUICK TO JUDGE AND MAKE HASTY COMMENTS TO DESTROY SOMEBODY’S REPUTATION INCLUDING THOSE WHO TOOK TIME TO WRITE MS. BERMEJO’S BOSS (attention Mr. Cid), WILL THEY HAVE THE BALLS AND GUTS TO APOLOGIZE TO THE REAL JACQUELINE BERMEJO OR STILL CLAIM THEIR INNOCENCE AND MAKE EXCUSES NA UNBELIEVABLE PA RIN YUNG STATEMENTS NYA WHEN SHE WAS CLEARING HER NAME? WILL THEY STILL SIDE WITH THE PERSON BEHIND THE MALICIOUS ACTION (ayun yung taong yun masarap ang tulog habang tayo nag-aaway-away at may nasira ang pangalan)? Baka naman we have become worse than the actual person who made the malicious comment, kung sino man sya. What is left for us to do is help the real Jacque Bermejo out of this traumatic experience na di nya kagustuhan and lets exert our efforts na lang to help each other na makabawi sa nawala dahil kay typhoon Ondoy.

we heard everything. we got mad and all. now we have the evidence. can we just stop attacking her coz its NOT her. who is insanely enough to put a multiply named starfishBUANG??? and see, no updated pics were there.

stop attacking her and put our energy in other things, like helping ondoy victims. and another typhoon is coming.

I can probably say its possible coz i experienced one also. sometimes you dont know someone is getting your profile pic and putting up an account under your name, to ruin your name or to acquire access to your friends page and to fish info. so be careful.

kababayans please....
we just cannot imagine how her everyday life is like.

Anonymous said...

from a web programmer's point of view, pedeng mahack ang account ng isang tao. and marami ring way para gumawa ng fake account using info of other people. it's pretty immature to comment right away to a very bold statement that came from the internet especially from a social networking site where there is no assurance of how real the accounts are. mahirap manghusga ng di mo nalalaman ang katotohanan. ok lang sana kung personal na sinabi nung tao, as in nanggaling mismo sa bibig nya kaso hindi. kaya magisip bago magcomment and magisip din bago magcomment sa comment.

Everyone, let's quit mobbing this woman. No matter what she said, or even if she said it, mobbing her will do no one anything good.

More likely than not, ibang tao ang gumawa niyan, hindi.

Anyway, we should all just leave her alone and let God (or fate if you don't believe in God) be the one to judge this woman.

Magandang gabi.

sinabi nya identity theft. sinabi nya ni-report nya na sa dubai policy. eh ano na ang status nung complaint na sinampa nya? if this was a case of identity theft via networking sites, ganon na lang ba ka-walang silbi ang dubai police that they can't request these sites IP information of the person posting these un-filipino statements? don't tell me dubai police doesn't have a division/unit that handles internet fraud.

and one thing...nahihirapan ako maniwala na wala sya kinalaman. kse she herself has stated, this supposed identity thief knows kahuli-hulihang baho nya...and even pictures! ibig nya ba sabihin na basta meron camera sya nakita eh pose ng lang sya ng pose? na hindi nya kilala ang kumukuha ng picture nya? anong gusto nya palabasin?....na meron syang mga paparazzi?

so sad because my wife and kids was a victim of the ondoy flooding in marikina. and to know that a fellow kababayan is so condescending towards the plight of her own people...that just leaves a bad taste in anybody's mouth.

I just googled Jacqueline Bermejo to see what became of all this controversy and gossip a few months after the fact. Looks like it's pretty much died down but there still remain mixed comments from people here and there. Some believe she still wrote those comments and that she should still be severely punished. There doesn't seem to be a lot of people apologizing for tearing her down though. I guess all those people spouting hateful comments have moved on to their next target. I'd like to think that the majority of Filipinos were more sensible and kept comments and judgments to themselves until there was more information at hand. It's a bit hard for me to believe that though, when the very vocal minority speak for all.

What I'd like to see is all this overzealous righteousness put to good use - to have it put toward improving ourselves and others' situations.

It's easy to tear people down. It's harder to build them up. Let's build each other up. Let's make this a better world.
